While I was in Israel I got a shout out in a North Coast Journal article about local luthiers!

Over the last few months I have been spending as much time as possible in the Vance Banjos shop, working on this project: a 12” fretless banjo.  Colin has been generous with his time, expertise, tools, and space, and helped me realize this long-time dream of mine.  Click the photo to see the gallery I’ve uploaded on FB.  I’ll post some audio soon and you can hear what it sounds like!

Did I mention my pal Colin Vance is a stand up gentleman and skilled artisan?  He built for me this beautiful banjo.  And he could build one for you too…

A jam in the dry room at the Vance Banjos shop, with myself on my new Vance resonator banjo and Colin himself playing fiddle.  The tune is Snake Chapman’s Tune, which I learned from Elise Engelberg when I went down to San Francisco to play with the Crooked Jades.

Here’s the melodic banjo thing I worked out for this.  I’ll let you figure out how to play the harmony parts yourself.

I’ve been learning my friend Lyndsey’s songs lately, here’s a tune we played on Sunday, I’m a little rough around the edges on this one but I am stoked to be playing my new Vance banjo!
