Oh snap!  Grub Sprangs!

Colin Vance and I just opened for Frank Fairfield at the Arcata Playhouse.  I’ve played shows with Frank a few times now but this was the first time we got him to play some music with us!  He’s backing us up here on a version of Blackberry Blossom.

The Striped Pig Stringband with myself on mandolin busting down on an old standard.  I suppose that Tommy Jarrell of Toast, North Carolina is probably the source of this tune.  I had a buddy who reffered to him affectionately as “The Reverend Jesus Tommy Jarrell.”  Make of that what you will.

Here’s a song from Riley Puckett, a blind singer, guitarist, and banjo player from Georgia.  I’m playing guitar, mandolin, and three-finger banjo for this song.

You can hear the original recording on Youtube, with fiddler Clayton McMichen.

Here’s the banjo part I worked up for the melody.  Right click the image to save or to view a larger version.
